Maxum Multi Vite is a multivitamin formula that also provides five sources of antioxidants for the maintenance of good health. Selenium is required for the production of selenoproteins, including glutathione peroxidases and selenoprotein P, which play a role in the antioxidant defense system. Vitamin C is the most important aqueous antioxidant in plasma, interstitial fluid, and the soluble compartment of cells. As the first line of defense in these areas, vitamin C prevents DNA damage caused by free radicals and helps recycle vitamin E to protect lipid membranes from oxidative stress. Rutin and green tea extracts provide an additional dose of antioxidants for the maintenance of good health. B vitamins help control hundreds of enzymatic reactions, including macronutrient metabolism. Niacin, thiamine, and biotin provide substrates for energy production in the Krebs cycle, while folate and vitamins B6 and B12 help convert homocysteine to methionine for protein production. Chromium supports healthy glucose metabolism by regulating glucose uptake in cells and promoting its storage as glycogen. Beta-carotene is a provitamin A carotenoid pigment found naturally in plants. Because it can be converted to vitamin A in the body, it is an important source of vitamin A, which contributes to healthy eyes, skin, membranes, and the immune system.
