Silica is the compound form of silicon, an important element that stimulates, rebuilds, and repairs collagen fibers, the most abundant protein in connective tissues. It is essential for the production and crosslinking of collagen, supporting keratin, elastin, bones, and cartilage to ensure structural integrity and movement.
Silica also contributes to bone mineralization and improves the health of skin, hair and nails by binding to collagen, elastin and keratin, thus contributing to the strength, durability and elasticity of connective tissues.

Foods rich in silica do not always provide bioavailable silicon in the body.
Foods high in silica (e.g., unrefined grains, fibrous vegetables) generally have lower bioavailability because silica is bound to complex matrices such as lignin, cellulose, and phytates, which are difficult to digest. A significant portion of silica is in a polymerized or insoluble form, which the body cannot absorb.
