Amino acid precursor to glutathione, a powerful antioxidant

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an important amino acid precursor to glutathione (GSH), one of the body's most powerful intracellular antioxidants, which promotes the optimization of phase II hepatic biotransformation (liver detoxification). NAC is the most stable form of the amino acid L-cysteine as a nutritional supplement. It plays an essential role in respiration by supporting lung health, is also used to facilitate post-workout muscle recovery, and acts as a cytoprotector against a wide range of pro-oxidant and inflammatory etiopathology. Additionally, due to the presence of a sulfhydryl group (-SH), NAC offers protection against exposure to heavy metals and other harmful substances.
