Slippery elm is a large native tree found throughout eastern North America. In Quebec, it is found in the southern and western parts of the province. Slippery elm contains complex substances called oligomeric proanthocyanidins, which are known for their antiseptic and anti-allergic properties. Its mucilage has been used since ancient times by Native Americans.
