It is surprising that, of all nutrients, iron is the one most commonly deficient in women in North America. 35 to 58% of healthy young women have iron deficiency, and this percentage slightly increases during pregnancy. Fatigue, weakened immune system, and impaired brain activity are all symptoms of iron deficiency. By the time anemia is diagnosed, iron levels may already be alarmingly low.
