Aesculus hippocastanum, also known as Horse Chestnut, is an herb traditionally used to improve symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), such as hemorrhoids and varicose veins. The evidence-based dose for Aesculus hippocastanum appears to depend primarily on the escin content, which should be a minimum of 150 mg per day, rather than the dried herb equivalent or the total amount of extract.
