Cranberry Plus capsules contain concentrated cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) fruit extract that prevents urinary tract infections while enhancing antioxidant capacity. Approximately 10 to 20% of women experience one or more episodes of urinary discomfort or a urinary tract infection each year. Cranberries are rich in polyphenols, antioxidant compounds such as proanthocyanidins, which reduce the adhesion of E. coli bacteria to the uroepithelial cells that line the bladder. In healthy women and women with a history of bladder infections, supplements containing cranberry extract were found to be highly effective in significantly reducing the adherence of two strains of E. coli bacteria obtained from urine samples. Regular consumption of cranberry supplements helps reduce the incidence of urinary tract infections in women at high risk of contracting such infections, and may also help improve symptoms of lower urinary tract infections in men. Due to their high concentration of polyphenols, cranberries also reduced oxidative stress in both healthy participants and those with metabolic syndrome.
