Cod liver oil is a source of omega-3 fatty acids and contains high levels of vitamins A and D, which support healthy eyes, bones, and the brain. Vitamin A is necessary for the production of rhodopsin, a pigment in the retinal rods that supports vision in low light. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the proper development of retinal structure and visual acuity in infants, as both the rods and cones of the retina require DHA to function properly. DHA is also necessary to support pre- and postnatal brain development, as high levels are present in neuronal synapses. Vitamin D helps support bone growth in children and maintains bone health in adults. Recent research suggests that 600 IU of vitamin D per day can maximize bone health in adolescents and adults.
Adults: Take 1 teaspoon (5 mL) daily with a meal or as directed by your healthcare professional.
