Nutritional information

High-dose B12 formula with folic acid Helps prevent vitamin B12 deficiency Contributes to red blood cell formation Helps the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and proteins Helps reduce the risk of neural tube defects when taken before and during early pregnancy Provides 1000 mcg of vitamin B12 and 400 mcg of folic acid per dose Bio B12 + Folic Acid includes a high dose of vitamin B12 to support macronutrient metabolism and prevent vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 is an important cofactor in two enzymatic reactions: 1. methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, which helps dissolve branched-chain amino acids and irregular-chain fatty acids; and 2. methionine synthase, which is necessary for methyl transfer reactions, including the conversion of homocysteine to methionine for protein production. A daily intake of 400 mcg of folic acid during the first trimester can reduce neural tube defects by about 50%. Folic acid is a methyl group donor, and research indicates that improper methylation can cause neural tube defects. Similarly, a reduction in vitamin B12 or folic acid leads to a buildup of homocysteine, which can inhibit methyl transfer reactions. Vitamin B12 improves methionine synthesis and increases folic acid's ability to lower homocysteine levels for normal methyl metabolism. The vitamin is also required for the methylation of proteins involved in the synthesis and maintenance of myelin, and vitamin deficiencies can lead to decreased production of the myelin sheath, a material necessary for normal nervous system function. Methionine synthase is required for the formation of red blood cells, and vitamin B12 deficiency has been associated with the production of abnormally large and irregularly shaped blood cells.
